How the Cardiowell blood pressure monitor works

You press one button. The monitor sends the reading over a cellular connection. The person registered to the device sees it in a secure portal.

There is no app to download, no Bluetooth pairing, and no password to remember on the monitor's side.

The short version

1. Set upThe monitor is registered to one cell phone number. That number belongs to the person who will see the readings.
2. Take a readingWrap the cuff on the upper arm, sit still, and press Start/Stop.
3. See itThe reading appears on the monitor's screen and goes to your secure portal. You get a text with a link to it.

Step 1: Register the monitor to a cell number

Each monitor is registered to one cell phone number. That number receives the readings, the portal link, and texts with BP Buddy.

Ordering from cardiowell.com. Enter your cell phone number at checkout. We register the monitor to it before it ships. If you are ordering for a parent, use your own number, and the readings come to you.

Ordering from Amazon. When the monitor arrives, scan the QR code in the box with a phone and type in the cell number that should receive the readings. If you bought it for a parent, your parent scans the code and types in your number.

The quick set-up guide walks through registration and the first reading, step by step.

Step 2: Take a reading

  1. Sit with your back supported and your feet flat on the floor. Rest for five minutes.
  2. Put the cuff on your bare upper arm, and rest the arm on a table at heart level.
  3. Press Start/Stop. Stay still and don't talk while the cuff inflates.
  4. Read the result on the screen.

Every monitor comes with the Extended Adult cuff, which fits an upper arm 22 to 45 centimeters (9 to 18 inches) around. Two other sizes are sold separately for $25 each, so measure your upper arm before you order.

Cuff sizes

Measure around the middle of your bare upper arm with a soft tape, halfway between the shoulder and the elbow.

Extended Adult Cuff (BT194)22 to 45 cm (9 to 18 in)General adults. Also the only cuff listed for pregnancy.Included in every box. Also sold separately, $25

Step 3: The reading reaches you

The monitor has its own cellular connection. It does not need Wi-Fi, a smartphone nearby, or a Bluetooth connection. Your parent can press the button with no phone in the house, and the reading still gets to you.

The portal shows:

  • Each reading with its date and time
  • Graphs and statistics over time
  • Notifications

You open the portal from a secure link sent by text. The link stays valid until you open it from a new device. When you do, a new link is sent automatically to the cell number registered to the monitor.

BP Buddy

BP Buddy is an AI assistant you reach by text message. Ask it about a reading, and it answers. It does not diagnose, and it does not replace your doctor.

Sharing with a doctor or family

Anyone with access to the portal can send a PDF report to anyone else. People use this to send a month of readings to a doctor before an appointment, or to a sibling.

One cell number is registered to each monitor. To change the registered number, open the Cardiowell app from the link in your text message and go to your profile settings.
